Sensory Rest

When the world gets loud, your senses need space to soften.

Welcome to Day 3 of the 7 Types of Rest.

Today, we’re talking about a kind of rest your nervous system is quietly begging for: Sensory Rest.

Even when you’re not physically busy, your senses often are.

Think about it…

Notifications.
Bright lights.
Background noise.
Conversations.
Glowing screens.
A million tabs open - in your mind and your browser.

No wonder you feel overstimulated, frazzled, or just plain tired.

Sensory rest isn’t about locking yourself in a dark room.
It’s about offering your senses small, intentional pauses.
Moments where your nervous system can take a deep sigh of relief.

Even 30 seconds can:

  • Quiet the mental buzz

  • Loosen your jaw

  • Soften your shoulders

  • And gently bring you back to yourself

You don’t need perfect silence to create sensory rest - just presence.

Today’s guided practice is a Palm-to-Face Reset - a simple, sensory-soothing ritual you can do anywhere.

We’ll warm the hands, cover the eyes, and settle into darkness and stillness.
No fancy props. Just your own touch and a few quiet breaths.

Press play to give your senses a moment of calm.

Gentle Reflection

Once you’ve done the practice, check in with yourself:

  • Which of your senses feels most overstimulated lately?

  • What’s one small way you could soften or reduce that input today?

  • What does overstimulation feel like in your body?

Coming Up Tomorrow: Emotional Rest

We’ll explore what it really means to stop holding it all together - and why being “fine” all the time is quietly exhausting.

Because rest doesn’t always look like stopping.
Sometimes, it’s just turning down the volume.
