Mental Rest

You don’t need silence to rest your mind - just a moment of presence.

Mental Rest

You don’t need silence to rest your mind - just a moment of presence.

Welcome to Day 2 of the 7 Types of Rest.

Today we’re focusing on a kind of rest most people don’t even realise they’re missing: Mental Rest.

We live in a world that’s always “on.”
Tabs open. Notifications pinging. Brain constantly juggling 500 things.

Mental rest isn’t about switching off your brain completely - it’s about giving it a break from having to perform all the time.

A break from:

  • Solving

  • Planning

  • Worrying

  • Remembering everyone’s birthdays

In short: a break from doing.

Mental rest gives your thoughts space to settle, your nervous system a chance to downshift, and clarity the room to rise.

And no - it’s not lazy.
Mental rest is leadership. It’s presence.
And it can change how you think, speak, and show up.

Watch the video for Day 2 below

In today’s short video, I’ll guide you through a grounding practice called 5-4-3-2-1 - a quick and powerful way to come back to the present moment.

No special setup needed. Just your senses.
Press play and give your mind a moment of peace.

Or you can listen to the audio here

Gentle Reflection

Once you’ve done the practice, take a few minutes to reflect:

  • What surprised you about this moment of stillness?

  • Which part of the exercise felt easiest - and which felt hardest?

  • What’s one small way you could weave this into your day?

If you’d like space to journal this out, download the workbook here:

Coming Up Tomorrow: Sensory Rest

We’ll explore how bright lights, background noise, and even screen time may be draining your energy more than you think - and what to do about it.

Because mental rest isn’t about doing nothing.
It’s about being fully here.
